My csection was after 19 hrs of labor so details are fuzzy but I vaguely remember having to drink a small cup of something once I got into to operating room?! Anyone know what this was and what it was for? Thanks!
I'm an L&D nurse...we give patients a GERD cocktail. It is Reglan 10mg, pepcid 20mg and 15mls of bicitra. It's to decrease stomach acid and help with nausea. Anesthesia requires all patients get this before their c-section. The stuff tastes nasty!
This is interesting. I was given something for nausea in my IV. I never had to drink anything.

Ditto! Never had to take anything by mouth!
Not surprising that a lot of patients do vomit it up afterwards, then anesthesia will give IV meds. I've had some people throw it up RIGHT after they drank the nasty stuff...it's just required by our hospital to give it. Maybe it helps some people...
I had it, but I don't remember it being gross. . .Maybe my pure exhaustion masked its nastiness. I never threw up, but gagged and said "I need to throw up" while I was being stitched back up.
I was having an emergency c-section....like baby born in under 10 minutes. They hand that thing to me and I tasted it and threw it on the floor apparently. I don't recall any of that.

I had it and threw it up immediately. It tasted like stomach acid.

Re: Drink in the OR?
I still have nightmares about that drink! Hands down it was the worst part of my c-sections!
With all the advances in medicine I'm shocked nobody came up with an improved flavor ( or any flavor for that matter).
N-A-S-T-Y!!!!!

I never had to drink anything either. Anti nausea meds were given through my IV and only after I threw up and complained of nausea.
