How long is your kindergartners lunch?

Ava only gets 15 minutes. I know that they are hard pressed for time, but that just seems so short. She NEVER finishes her lunch and the first thing she does when she gets in the car is start eating it from her lunchbox.

Re: How long is your kindergartners lunch?

  • Oh my! That is short. DD would never even come close to finishing that fast. Some kids haven't even started by then. DD's lunch is 30 minutes. They get a 10 minute warning when the teachers turn out the lights and tell them to finish up. After lunch, they have a 30 minute recess.
  • 20 mins for lunch, DS is getting pretty good at cramming it all in now. Last year was a little rough.

Do they get a snack at school too?

  • Our school has 20 minutes lunches.
  • 30 min lunch and I believe 30 min recess that follows.
  • I'm pretty sure its 30 minutes.  15 minutes is just not enough.

  • I am not sure how long they get, but R is the same way.  I know that if she would eat first, talk later, she would have enough time to eat it, though because that first week of school before she made friends, she ate everything.  LOL!
  • They do have a snack @ 10am so that does help. I just hate the mentality of rush rush, cram as much in as you can.

  • 20 minute lunch, 20 minute recess. DS has time to finish but  not if he won't stop talking, which happens frequently. He's like that at home too, though.

  • Officially, it's 25 minutes, but from what I have seen, they sometimes get in there later and that shortens their time.  But, what I do like is that rather than herd all 125 or so kindergarteners out for recess at once, the kids line up when they are done and every 5 minutes or so, a cafeteria monitor takes the ones who are lined up outside to the recess area.  So, if a class gets there late, they still have time to eat.  And the faster kids get a bit longer recess.

  • It's around 12-15 minutes.  Ridiculous!  I always tell L to start with his sandwich (hoping it will help tide him over) and I've really cut back on how much I send him.

  • DS has a 20 min lunch and a 25 min recess.
  • She has 20 minutes for lunch and a 15 min recess before lunch. She's been asking for 1/2 a sandwich plus one other item. She just doesn't have time to eat more. She does get a morning and afternoon snack at school.

  • DD is in half day kindergarten but the older kids get 40 minutes for lunch.  If they finish early, they go out for recess.

    .
  • Ours schools are only half day.

However first graders get 35 minutes for lunch AND recess combined.

In my opinion, not nearly enough time.
