Help! White bump on gum?

DS has had a white bump on his gum on the upper middle for at least 2 weeks now.  I thought it was the beginning of a tooth and he didn't seem to be bothered by it.  Daycare just called and said that he's been really fussy today & they just noticed the bump and think it's to blame and that he needs to go to the pedi.  Anyone have any experience w/this?  I've missed so much work lately b/c of DS getting me sick that if it's really nothing I hate to panic.  TIA!

They will often get cysts that can occur before a tooth erupts or even without eruption. It is most likely nothing. I would tell them that the bump has been there for a few weeks and is probably not the reason for the fussiness. He could be fussy for a variety of reasons and I hate for you to miss work for it. I'm a pediatrician so you can tell them that you talked to one about it! They don't need to know that it was on the nest!

It sounds exactly like a tooth coming in... those things are most painful (and white) right before erruption.  Give your pedi a call to make sure...

DD had one at her 4mo appointment.  I brought it up to the pedi and he said that it was just a cyst and it would go away on it's own.  Apparently they are pretty common.  I can't imagine that is the reason for his fussiness.

How big is it?

It's about the size of a pin head.  It's been there for a while with no "complaints" from him.  I guess daycare is worried b/c they hadn't noticed it before and DS is usually an extremely happy baby so any fussiness is very noticeable.
