Massachusetts MoMs?

My husband and I are expecting twins in Mar or Apr. We currently live in Texas but are planning a move back to Mass next month to be closer to our families. I want to see a MFM out of the gate as our twins are mo/di. We will most likely be living north shore or west of Boston. I have no idea how to go about finding the right dr. And hospital and would love any reccs on how to do that (or...actual reccs). Thanks so much for any help!

Re: Massachusetts MoMs?

  • I am expecting twin boys in December and would highly recommend the OB I currently have Dr. Elizabeth Konig who is located at Newton Wellesley Hospital. I did a lot of research on hospitals that have level 3 NICU's and Newton Wellesley was the best aside from Children's in Boston.

  • Twinny's suggestion sounds great.  I'm in the city so I'm at BIDMC and Children's is right there.

Look for larger hospital systems where you are -- Beth Israel, Brigham and Women's, Harvard Vanguard, plus whatever system Newton Wellesley is on -- IMO you can't go wrong w a branch of any of those.

  • We go to Boston MFM and they have been great. I mostly see Dr Roque but I really love Dr. Hamer and have heard good things about Dr. Takoudes.

I delivered my daughter at Newton Wellesley which was wonderful. If we were only having one we'd absolutely go there again. For this pregnancy my OB sent me straight to the MFM and said that NWH doesn't generally do triplets- something to do with the NICUs in Boston being better able to handle preterm babies.

    Good luck with the move!

^ One of these is my high-risk OB and I really really like them.  I had some crappy ultrasound tech last week there, though.  My OB is also in that same building.  Anyway -- Boston MFM is super diligent without scaring you, super A+.

^ Do you know if you're going to have to deliver AT Children's?  That's interesting about what they said about the NICUs!

    Good luck with the move!

  • We delivered our babies at MGH and see the drs at Vincent OB/GYN, and are located right at the hospital or MGH West which is in Waltham.  Good luck! :) We had the most amazing experience with those drs and that hospital.

  • Thanks so much ladies!

  • I saw my OB at Lexington OBGYN. My OB's policy for twins was to bring an MFM onto the case. She used Boston MFM. I liked how I didn't have to drive into Boston every time I needed an appointment. For routine stuff, I just went to Lexington. I saw the MFM for ultrasounds.

When my pregnancy started to get complicated, I was turned over to the MFMs. I delivered at Beth Israel because they have a really good NICU. I met all the the Boston MFMs during my stay at BIDMC (I was there on bed rest), and they were all great.

  • I'm on the North Shore and see North Shore OB/GYN, and then saw MFM through MGH (they have a Danvers campus).  I delivered at Salem Hospital.  Had I been high risk or gone early I would have delivered at MGH.
  • We are delivering at Beth Israel I've heard good things and our experience so far has been great.

  • I live on the North Shore but I am going to St. Elizabeth's in Brighton. My husband is a NICU respiratory therapist there and he works with an MFM that he thought I would love, Dr. Lucy Bayer. She IS amazing! Plus, the equipment in the NICU is top notch at St. E's and so are the nurses and respiratory therapists Wink

  • Dr. Michael Greene - Mass General Hospital.  He heads up the "high risk" group there.

One of my triplets has spina bifida and spent three weeks in the NICU at Mass General.  The nurses there were absolutely wonderful.  Most of Anna's doctors are with Mass General as well.

    Good luck with your move.

  • I delivered at Brigham and Women's and saw Dr Acker.  I loved the staff and doctors there.  Everyone was great and the NICU was very accomodating!

  • I can't recommend Newton Wellesley enough.  Dr. Angle at NW OBGYN is my OB and I love love love her, and was lucky that she was there for the delivery of my twins and my singleton.  But if she couldn't be there, I would've been perfectly happy with the other docs in the practice.  I had my regular ultrasounds done in the MFM area of the hospital, and those docs are great too.
  • I went to RI and I know that will be too far for you.  But, I wanted to say GL with the move and everything!
