flu shot Q

Do you think it matters if you get your kid's flu shot from their doctor?  Is it bad if I just take her to a walk-in clinic?

I'm annoyed that my doctor's office in Catonsville is only doing flu shot clinics on Wednesday nights.  I really don't wnat to leave work early and rush to get her a shot on a school night (not fun times for everyone!)

Would it be bad to take her to Rite Aid on a Saturday morning?

  • I don't think it would really matter-I would just call the place first and confirm they do them for little kids. I think some have an age cutoff.

  • I'd call first only because I don't know if the dosing is the same and they might not do kids.

  • she's over 2 now, so I think we can go to non-peds walk in clinics.

  • I guess it depends on how you feel about going to a walk-in? If you feel comfortable then you should do it. I totally agree that you would prefer to have it done by her pedi, but that isn't an option for you due to the times they offer it. I can see why you are annoyed with your doctors office because that time is not accommodating. I know the target clinic is really professional. I am sure the workers at the Rite Aid are triained, so she should be fine.

  • Personally, I feel weird getting it in a pharmacy so I know I won't want B getting it anywhere other than her ped. But that's just me being over-analytical, paranoid me.

  • I don't think it's bad. I would do that if it was more convenient.

  • Nope, I don't think it is a problem.,  But I would definitely call ahead to double check that they have the proper vaccine for children available.

We have no co-pay if we go to the ped and the co-pay is $50 for the walk-in clinic, so We'll definitely be going to the ped's office.  Thankfully they don't have a set time for flu shots.

  • I got mine at Target last year and it was pretty professional and all. My DD is too young I think for a pharmacy, but if I wanted to get her a flu shot when she's older I'd probably just go to one of those places. For this year I'm just waiting til her 18 month appt in December and hoping to do it then.

  • I see no problem... just call to make sure they have the right dosage for her.

  • According to this website, https://www.minuteclinic.com/flu/ they have the vaccine for children 18 months and older @ the CVS minute clinics.

It's most likely the same exact vaccine that she would get at the ped's office, and it's not like the doctor ever actually administers the vaccines anyway, it's always a nurse- at least @ our pedi it is.

  • I got my shot at Rite Aid, but when I asked if I would be able to bring my daughter in for hers I was told that they were only able to do 18 and up there.  Off to the pediatrician I go, I suppose.
