XP from AP: Dropping a feeding

My LO usually wakes to eat around 1 or 2am then again between 4:30-5:30am.  Then when he's up for the day around 7:30 he isn't hungry.  He doesn't really want to eat until 9.  This wouldn't be a problem but that means that he won't nurse before i go to work so he gets an extra bottle with the sitter and i have to basically pump before i leave for work or right after i get there.

I'm thinking about having my DH go to LO when he wakes for the 2nd feeding to try and sooth him back to sleep.  I think he may be waking up more from habit than hunger.  What do you guys think?  Try to to "drop" (its really more pushing back than dropping) the feeding or just wait for him to do it on his own?

Re: XP from AP: Dropping a feeding

  • What time does your LO last nurse before bed? Personally I would try to delay that 1 am feed. Maybe if you could push it to 3ish then it would put the next feeding before you go to work? Either way I do not see the harm in trying to delay a feeding, especially if you think it is more out of habit than true need.

  • He eats around 7:30pm so he goes about 6 hours before the next feeding.  He has gone as long as 2:30 but still wakes up at 5 or so.  I'll see how things go tonight.
