So this is my 1st pregnancy and im full of anxiety and what if's.. im sure everyone is too but im short on friends to really talk to and so here i am..i"ve been reading what to expect and i must say im really not into it..what im basically getting from it if mostly food info wich is great and all but honestly who really obsesses over food its time to splure (moderatly ofcourse) but ur gonna eat what ur body wants plain and simple... i find it to be cold and distant and 'expected' it to be better but i guess i have to finish it..i think im getting much better info through this site though..well just kinda saying hi and venting a bit
Re: 1st timer :)
Ditto the above. Throw out What to expect- there is NO human way to eat all that food and its is constantly telling you what can go wrong. No need for more reasons to worry a pregnant lady.
I loved "Great Expectations" also, much more down to earth. And listen to your OB and yourself. Of course, if "yourself" is telling you to eat dirt or raw eggs or something, maybe listen to your OB a little more... But still.
oh, and welcome!

I actually found "You, Having a Baby" to be pretty useful and have some interesting tidbits of information. Especially about things that can happen anytime during your pregnancy vs. when "Expecting" stated they would be happening.
Congrats and welcome!
Welcome and congrats.
I also hated WTEWYE. You are so not alone. I did like What to Eat When You're Expecting, however. My favorite pregnancy book was Pregnancy, Childbirth, and the Newborn.
The only Easter Bunny I can get behind.

Welcome and Congrats!
I will tell you, I just looked a ton of information up on PG websites. I looked at week by week growth charts and things like that. But for health and nutrition, there is a wealth of free information all over the place.
Also, for fun, we got the Caveman's guide to pregnancy and the Caveman's guide to the first year. It is in fun language, and was nice for DH to enjoy.
I also read JEnny MacCarthy's book Belly Laughs for a fun and comical side of it all.
Enjoy! I hope it is a happy and fun PG!
Welcome! I totally agree with you about WTEWYE. I'm also new here, both on the board and in the Seattle area, so I can completely sympathize with not having friends to discuss it with. I went to the library and checked out several books. I finished one, but just can't bring myself to read WTEWYE cover to cover. However, I've found lots of helpful info and reassurance online. The Mayo Clinic has a lot of helpful pregnancy articles and advice on their website (they've published a book that I think has much of the same info). I also LOVED the week-by-week pregnancy calendar posted by the alphamom blog. It's hilarious and helpful at the same time. https://alphamom.com/pregnancy-calendar-overview/
