Babies: 6 - 9 Months

did anyone have Hellp Syndrome/ know anyone that did?

Just curious.  A friend of the family delivered last week and was diagnosed with Hellp.  She ended up having to get a hysterectomy because she was bleeding too much and she extremely sick because her liver and kidney aren't working properly.  Baby is fine!  She delivered passed her due date.  Just curious of outcomes, etc.

  • Our neighbor just delivered a baby boy last Friday at 35 weeks. She had pre-e and Hellp. She's doing fine now, but the baby is still in the NICU trying to gain some weight back and nurse properly.
  • I delivered at 35 weeks with pre-e and HELLP. Thankfully neither I not my DS had any lasting effects from it. Positive thought going to you friend.

  • I had pre-e and HELLP and was induced at 31 weeks with my daughter. It can be very dangerous, as it shuts down parts of your system. Luckily, it is pregnancy induced, therefore it goes away shortly after birth (depending on how bad the damage was to organs). I remained in the hospital 1 week after delivery due to low platelets, but my kidneys and liver repaired themselves on their own. Good luck to your friend!!
  • A girl I know recently delivered her baby at 28 weeks because she had pre-e and hellp.  Baby was only 2lbs but is doing well, lungs were fine.  Because they knew she was delivering early she was able to get the steroid injection to help the baby's lungs develop.
