So the theme is winter one-derland ...there will be 18 kids and 50 adults (yes, big family!) ...It will be held during dinner time...I want it to be nice but I don't want to spend too much $$ ...soooooo ideas?
You could meatball subs, keep it hot in a crock pot with lots of sides. Salads, fruit, pasta salad etc. Or a taco bar. A friend of mine did a hot dog bar. She looked up recipes online for different hot dogs (Chicago dog, chili dog, Cali dog etc) and set stations for them all.
For my son's first we did potato soup, white bean chicken chili, sloppy joes, and 7 layer salad. For his second we did pulled pork with coleslaw, baked beans, mac and cheese. This year was chicken and noodles (it has peas and carrots in it too) and mashed potatoes.
General apps for all was cheese and crackers, veggie tray, shrimp dip, peanut butter dip with apple slices, celery, and graham crackers.
I would start watching sales a month or so out to buy things I needed.
I would do lasagna and salad. Like Stouffers.... and maybe make a homemade veterinarian one. That way the prep is kept to a minimum, and most people love that. You could always do an easy noodle and sauce thing too for the kids.
We are going to do chili, white chicken chili, and a grilled cheese bar. However, I will have far fewer people than you. For DD1s first, we had 100 people, but it was summer and we did it outside. This time it will be freezing and I don't want 100 people in my house! So it's family and close friends, and I am hoping it's going to be less stressful!
