Adoption

1st placement call!!

Got a call yesterday about a little gal that is about to be 8 months old. She seems to have no significant medical issues though she was born very premature and spent the 1st 3 months of her life in the hospital (she was also drug exposed.) The birth grandma is trying to get custody but failed a home study.  She's been with a foster mom since she got out of the hospital but the FM now can't care for her because of health issues.  Has anybody had a birth relative fail a home study but then appeal and actually get custody. We're going into this with an open heart and mind and just loving this little one for as long as she is with us- but we are also foster to adopt and ultimately want to grow our family.  Guard is up but we are extremely excited. She should be transitioning in a couple of days.

Married - 8/2009 Diagnosed right away as sub-fertile. PCOS for me and low motility, morphology for DH. On treatment of glucophage and supplements for PCOS. Completely OOP. 4 IUI's - clomid- all BFN's IVF #1- 13 fertilized, no frozens- BFN IVF #2- ER 2/21, 18 retrieved, 12 fertilized. ET 2/24 - 2 beauties. No frozens. BFN. IUI #5 using leftover meds- BFN Trying new meds for PCOS. SAIF & PAIF and prayers welcome! Entering the world of adoption. Choosing happiness and love and focusing on the blessings we do have instead of the things that we don't.

  • Relatives failing homestudies could easily be not passing background checks, history with CPS, etc.

It does happen quite often. But always guard your heart because things in foster care from day to day, I know as I had 6 children in my home that I could not adopt.

This whole thing exactly.  Our youngest DS had ALL of his relatives fail the HS (Both sets of grandparents and 3 Aunts/Uncles)  We had him for almost 7 months ( from 12 days old) when they decided Mom could have him back.  It lasted 2 1/2 weeks, she said she wanted us to adopt him and he came back to us.  At 11 mos, they decided that an Aunt and Uncle could have him, ( they managed to pass the HS even though I wouldn't have let a dog live in their apartment...I saw it with my own eyes!) and that lasted 2 1/2 weeks.  A lot depends on the law in your state and the CW's recommendations.  The judges also have some leeway in interpreting the law.  Some are more "adoption friendly' and some bend over backwards for the birthfamily.  You just have to hope for impartial judgement from all parties involved and that they can decide what is truly best for the child.

    Good Luck!
