Tingling/Swelling Hands?

Has anyone else been experiencing tingling and/or severe swelling in their hands lately?  My hands, in particular my left hand, has gotten tingly and numb off and on for the past few weeks and both of my hands swell up really bad off and on, but especially after going for walks or being active in any other way (I'm lefthanded).

I went to L&D the other weekend due to high blood pressure for a NST and 24 hour urine collection and so far they haven't found any protein so no pre-e for me yet, but I have heard that the swelling hands are another symptom of pre-e.

I have mentioned this swelling and tingling/numbness to my doctor, but she doesn't seem to be too worried about this, but it is driving me nuts!

Re: Tingling/Swelling Hands?

  • I have tingling in both of my wrists/hands due to carpal tunnel, which is worse when pregnant because of water retention/swelling.  That's what it sounds like.  If it's super annoying you can try sleeping in wrist braces.

  • My hands tingle sometimes when I get these bouts of breathlessness... I think LO is up in my diaphraghm and I have difficulty drawing a breath. Sometimes it makes me headachy with tingly hands.

  • Have you been eating/drinking things with a lot of sodium? Could be adding to the swelling?

  • I go for two longer walks a day, and I noticed that my hands get numb feeling and swell up a little bit. Since it generally goes away within a few mins of sitting down and relaxing after my walk I honestly just chalk it up to a normal pregnancy symptom and dont think about it being a big problem.

  • The middle few fingers in my right hand have been tingling and numb for weeks now, and they fall asleep when I'm sleeping on my right side.  From what I've seen, it's all normal pregnancy stuff, and the swelling is pushing on the nerves.  It's sooo annoying!
