Between my husband and I, we pay over $600/month on student loans. Our families didn't qualify for grants but also couldn't afford to pay for college. It irks me that some people get the possibility of a free ride. Especially if they don't pay taxes!?
I didn't read the article. I'm lazy. But, my possibly UO is that if one is in the US illegally, they should get SQUAT. if there is a way to prove that one is on the path to citizenship, that is a different story. But if a person just chooses to break the law, they shouldn't get free stuff that taxpayers foot the bill for. Flame away.
I'm not flaming you. I happen to agree. My question is: If they are getting financial aid, we obviously know where they are. Why isn't the INS doing anything about it? Either deporting them, arresting them, or helping them achieve legal status in the US.
So I haven't read it yet... but I just saw that the link has California in it. Personally, I think California is messed up when it comes to education.
Anyways, I'll go off and read the article and get back to you.
Yeah, CA is totally whacked out when it comes to priorities. More time is spent on minor issues (like the spay/neuter bill and the fancy lightbulb bill) than on the important issues like passing the budget on time.

Couldn't agree more... My parents saved for my schooling since the day I was born, and I still had to pick up a student loan for a portion of it while working my entire way through school. It honestly saddens me that people feel they deserve to take from a system they haven't paid into...
