Babies: 6 - 9 Months

When do you...

...lower the crib mattress?  When they can sit up independently or stand up?  My LO just started pulling herself into a sit and I have found her that way in the crib yesterday and today.  I am thinking it might be time to lower the mattress.

Re: When do you...

  • I believe most manufacturers suggest you lower it by 7 months. Better to do it too soon than to wake up to a baby crawling out of the crib.

  • The General rule for me was, if you question if it's time, go ahead and do it. The first time I found her attempting to pull up..even to her knees.. I lowered it.
  • We did it a month ago when DS started kicking the mobile base. He's a long way from being able to reach it, so we didn't want to take it down just yet.

  • Our crib has three heights. We lowered it to the middle one when DS could sit unsupported, around 5 months. Just yesterday we lowered it to the bottom when I went in to get him from his nap and found him standing up.
