Was curious about this book and there was even a class over it at my hospital. Have any of you ladies used the techniques in this book at all and they really helped? Thank you! :-)

Yes. We use the techniques every day. Works great for us! We just watched the DVD and read some pieces of the book. It is pretty straightforward, so you may not need the class.
YES! they really do help especially in the very newborn stage. The principle is that the first three months at home are the 4th "trimester" and mimicing the womb will help soothe your baby. There are 5 "S's"
Swaddle
Shush
Side/Stomach positioning
Swing
Sucking
He suggests you put your baby in a tight swaddle (which in it self will not calm the baby but together with the others it will) then position the baby sideways or on its stomach in your arms. I held my baby high up on my chest (over my boobs so she was on her side) Shush LOUDLY while swinging your baby and if they are still fussy give them a paci while you do this. It worked great for my LO. You may not need to buy the book but I liked the info in it and it was a quick read.
LO was going nuts Sunday night. Her grandparents were over and they were in her face too much. She didn't nap and was fussy. By that evening, she was screaming and crying. Nothing would sooth her. H said he has never seen her that upset before. I put her in a swaddle and shhhh'ed and she instantly chilled out and had the calmest look on her face. She was asleep 2 minutes later. :-) It was amazing and we were able to finish our movie!
Found the book for 3 bucks at a local book store. Seems pretty straight forward and is kind of what I have been taught before or read other places just has more info.
Loved it and it kept me sane in the early weeks! Still using the principles today and my baby is almost 11 weeks. I think we will use the tips for months and months to come!
Dr. Karp's 5 S's are a Godsend in my opion. My friend (who doesn't have kids) was over the other day when my LO was crying, I did the 5 S's, she immediately stopped, my friend was amazed and thought I was some kind of baby whisperer or something.
In our house it is known as the baby sleep bible. We used it with both of our kids and it was a lifesaver. We found it helped us establish a routine which later turned into a schedule...DS never argues about going to bed.

I read about it online.
