our neighborhood usually has a little Halloween parade on Halloween before the trick or treating starts. it's tiny, just the kids marching along in their costumes on the trail that goes through the neighborhood. then one of my neighbors usually throws a party (although she hasn't said anything about it yet this year...)
we also bought tickets this year for Boo at the Zoo and we are going with some good friends of ours and their kids. I'm looking forward to it :-)
Oh, timely! We have all weekend free and hope to do some fun fall stuff with C.
We're going to try to check out the Cabin John train, but if not, we'll go where we went last year - Montpelier Farms. They have tons of stuff for little kids. Hayride, corn maze, giant slide, llamas (!) and wasn't terribly crowded.
We are definitely doing the Eye Spy Cabin John Train - Maggie has being going for 2 years and Molly went last year too and they both love it.
We will go do the hayride to the pumpkin patch at Homestead Farms and they will pick out their pumpkins. Any nice weekend between now and Halloween.
Kidtoberfest at the Rio- Sat the 29th 1-5pm - we went last year and it was fun but this year we may be OOT.
Halloween Rocks at the Kentlands - Mon the 31st 3-7PM - we did this one year too and it was a nice place to walk around in costumes with things for the kids to watch.
It's more fall related than Halloween-specific, but we may go to the fall festival at South Mountain Creamery this weekend. We went last year and had a good time.
We also need to go to Homestead Farm and get pumpkins.
We may watch the Takoma Park Halloween parade - thanks T&C for the link!
The festival at Butler's looks like fun, but I think M is still a little young this year.

Ohhhh! We've been meaning to take C up there! This looks like a great reason to go!

Let me know if you end up going on Sunday (that's the day we may go).
We are planning to go to the Burke Nursery Pumpkin Playground: https://pumpkinplayground.com/. Last year, my DD was only about 19 months and there was a lot for her to do so I am really looking forward to this year. Admission includes a hay ride and a small carveable pumpkin, but at $12 per person (on the weekends) ages 2 and over, it is pricey.
We are going to Boo at the Zoo for the first time this year.
Thanks for the info on the Cabin John Eye Spy Train. We were lamenting recently that we never made it out there to ride the train this summer and were hoping to do it this month...I didn't realize they have a special Halloween train! Woot woot.
We have enjoyed Cox Farms and Montpelier Farm this year! We did the Burke Pumpkin Playground last year and plan on going again soon. Also, the Hot Air Balloon and Wine Festival is next weekend.
We just went to Cox Farms today and it was great because it was almost empty. DD loved all the slides (even the huge one) and had fun with the animals and the hayride. The place is set-up really well and I like that you just pay the entrance fee and everything is included. We had lunch there and it was pretty good (I guess it is hard to mess up grilled cheese and hot dogs but the prices were reasonable). But, I have heard the weekends can be mayhem.

Re: What local Halloween activities are you doing with the kids?
Last weekend, we did Butler's Pumpkin Festival which was pretty fun.
I hope to do Cabin John's Eye Spy Train one weekend.
I'm also hoping to go to the Harvest Festival at a church and buy a pumpkin there that DD and I can carve together.
Also, we'll go trick-or-treating on Halloween.
We like the Pumpkin Festival at Butler's Orchard.
ETA: Jinx!

We did Butler's last weekend and are probably going again this weekend.
Next Sunday is the annual costume contest/parade in Takoma Park (best link I could find).
