Honestly, that's an awful name for a human who will someday be over age 4. Would you hire Maverick Smith as your attorney, doctor or CEO? Not a name to take seriously.

1. I think of a friend with a dog named Maverick. That being said, my fav girl name is Lucy and there are a lot of dog Lucys and frankly I don't care.

2. Old school movie with Mel Gibson and Jodi Foster.

This is just a really iffy name. If you're going to push your kid to sucess a la Tiger Woods dad....who surely got some comments on the name Tiger, then I say go for it. But most likely..not really the best choice. You and DH should have pretty strong personalities to turn out a kid with this name who will be able to uphold it.

For the record, and another reason NOT to use Maverick, Tiger Woods' given name is Eldrick....not Tiger.

Somebody else asked this awhile back and I try not to comment on names, but this one I can't not reply. I had a boy in school named Maverick. Everytime a teacher/adult saw him, they'd say, "Oh! Like Top Gun?". The poor kid would just shake his head and look away and sigh. Now people might connect it more with Sarah Palin then Top Gun. Also, is this a name an adult would want? It's your child, so go for whatever names you like; this is just MHO.

Meh, it goes with the names of my other children, so we are going to use it. We aren't trying too hard, because we aren't trying to impress anyone. We just don't want to use a name that is used. My other children had names that were almost never used, but now they are more popular. I dont' even know what the sarah palin comment is, we aren't from usa, and I have never watched top gun. Thanks for the honesty though. Plus, I like the story behind it.
