I never thought I would say it, but I've really been thinking about a vaginal birth recently. We had a loss at 41w that I chose to have a c/s under general anesthesia for sanity sake. It probably would have ended up a necessity b/c I think I had a partial abruption (never confirmed) and started bleeding out right before I went under.
Repeat c/s was scheduled for 38w and I ended up going into labor at 37w. I went to the hospital for bleeding and as it turns out, had "another" partial abruption. Pretty nerve wracking.
I have no idea if it would be possible now with my history. My OB would not do it so I would have to find a new OB. I have a lot less issue w/ that as I've had in the past b/c I always felt a loyalty to her for all she went through w/ me and took good care of me. Now I just don't care as much.
So anyway I was just wondering if anyone had done 2 c/s and then went on to have a successful VBAC. Thanks!
Re: Anybody VBA2C
I had a VBA2C last year. My first c/s was due to my son being breech & my second was due to ds2 coming so closely after ds1 (just under 18 mo). Both of my c/s were over 5 years ago so I was fully healed, I hadn't had any other surgeries on my uterus (they ask about possible other scarring due to it possibly causing weakness in the uterine wall), and I had no other major health issues.
I was required to go into labor on my own - my dr. would not induce although they did augment after I went into labor. However, she did let me wait until 41 weeks +2 days; she wasn't going to let me go more than 1 more day without scheduling a c/s though so I was really blessed by my LO deciding it was finally time. I had a great birth & am planning to have another vaginal birth for my next child(ren).
I labored for about 20 hours with pitocin (low-moderate dosages) & no epidural without getting dialated past 1 1/2. I was given 2 more hours to labor or they would do a c/s, they decided at that time to let me have the epi if I wanted it to see if that would help. I was exhausted (had had pre-labor contractions all day & night for 2 days prior to labor actually starting), so I almost gave up & had a c/s instead of the epi. Thankfully my wonderful husband reminded me how much I had wanted this & how much I would hate my decision afterwards if I didn't try the epi. After the epi I dialated to 10 & ready to push in about 1 1/2 hours.
The advice I have for you is to really check into your doctor & the hospital. If I had happened to come in while a particular doctor was on duty I was told I would have been sent to a c/s because he refuses to do vba2c. My doctor was really really active on my behalf with the other ob's on staff & got them all on my side (except the one) before I went in, she also kept good tabs on my health. The nurses were also really helpful. I loved my vba2c & was so glad I did it - the recovery time for me was so much easier and less stressful, I was able to bond with my daughter immediately instead of her being whisked away like my sons were & I didn't have to take a ton of meds that made me loopy.
I hope whatever you choose really works out well for you.
I had a meeting with my obstetrician this week to talk about my VBAC. (I'm under the care of a midwife but he'll be the OB on call) His general guideline is that is you have 2 c/s for different reasons then there is no reason at all why you couldn't try for a VBA2C. If however, you have 2 c/s for the same reason, then you will be looking at c/s for any other babies you may have.
So for me, my c/s was because DS was breech. I'm trying for a VBAC this time but if I need a c/s because of placenta previa then if I have another baby I can try for a VBA2C.
I think though it will come down to your particular care provider and what they are comfortable with.
