Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Hopping over from 3-6 with a question

I'm about to schedule my son's 6 month photos. His 6 month pedi appointment is on Friday, 11/11/11 (c'mon, that's just fun to write). If I schedule his photos for the 12th, do you think that's enough time to recover from the vaccinations he'll receive on Friday? Should I push it back a week? He's done very well with all of his vaccinations to this point. I guess my broader question is how did your LO did with the 6 month shots? Better? Worse? About the same?

Thanks!

Re: Hopping over from 3-6 with a question

  • E's 6 month shots were the worst.  She just slept after her 2 month and 4 month but was really fussy for a couple days after her 6 months.  She also cut 2 teeth the next day though too so it was probably a mix of both.  I would push them back a week just in case.

  • I always give LO some tylenol during the appt (after they take his vitals) so it has a chance to start working before he even gets his shot.  He's always done really well.  He cried a little bit longer with 6mth, I think because he was more aware not because it was any bigger of a deal.  We could have easily done pictures the next day.  Personally, I wouldn't worry about it if your LO has always done well before.

  • DS hasn't had his 6 month shots yet (Wednesday!), but I scheduled his 6 month pics for today because I've heard that the 6 month shots are often really fussy even if the LO hasn't been before. I didn't want to take the risk.

  • It depends on how your DS reacts to shots. My DS had his 6 month shots and had his photos taken the same day. The pictures turned out great and he was smiling and happy the whole time.

  • She acted the same as she does every time. Just a little tired and fussy, but nothing major and no better or worse than any other time. That said, our pedi does an extended vaccination schedule so my LO didn't get as many shots as a baby on the "regular" shot schedule, so maybe that is why the 6 month shots or really any of the shots haven't been a big deal for us.

  • DD I think did better with 6 mos shots, but you still may want to push it back.  I think pictures are expensive so I wouldn't want to chance it.  GL

  • P had his 6mo shots + flu shot (part1) on Friday and he is still not himself. He's done well with his other shots... cried for 2 seconds and maybe slept more that night. This time was awful! He still only cried for a few seconds, but by bedtime he had a fever and was super fussy. I gave him tylenol and he slept *ok* but was fussy and sleepy with no appetite all day Saturday. The fever was gone by Sat night, but he was still not himself. He slept AWFUL last night, which I assume is related and he's been Mr. Cranky Pants today, too. I say give yourself a week, just incase. Better yet, do the photos first.

  • He was fine for the 6 month shots. Slept for about 3 hours right after but otherwise totally normal the next day.

  • The same (we have never had a problem so far).

  • DS's 6 month shots were the worst ones for him.  I'm guessing it was the flu shot since he never had a reaction to the other shots before.  He was fine the day of, but he was out of sorts for the next three days - low grade fever, whiney, etc.
