Did you go in with your records for a consultation or did you just choose a new practice and hope that their VBAC policy would work for you? I want them to look at all my L&D and surgical notes before/if I switch. I want to research new practices to consult them with mainly b/c I don't want to switch late in pregnancy and I want to have the right expectations and make sure I am on the same page as the MW/OB practice I go with.
So if you switched did you just pick one after calling and asking if they were VBAC friendly? I have 2 recs from friends that I want to try to consult with.
Re: If you changed practices...
Hey L - when I switched practices, they actually got my surgical records directly from the hospital. You can get copies of your medical records from your current practice, but they'll usually charge you a fee to provide them. Sometimes, they'll send them directly to your new practice if you ask the new practice to request them.
My midwife group never communicated with my old practice. I guess the surgical record from the hospital told them all they needed to know about the procedures I had. Hit me up on FB if you have any other questions. I did briefly switch to ATL Women's Specialists, but left them after I heard they only let you go to 40 weeks. I didn't think that was enough time.
I had heard good things, on TB as well as other websites, about the midwife I wanted to switch to for my VBAC. I actually started seeing her for a well-woman exam just prior to TTC, though when I originally contacted her I did tell her I was going to be TTC again and wanted to VBAC.
She did ask for my medical records, which I got from the hospital directly for free. IIRC, the only thing she wanted to see was the surgical report from my C/S, mostly because she wanted to verify that the incision on my uterus was indeed low transverse (the scar on your skin isn't always the same as the scar on your uterus).

This was my experience, too. I knew the practice I wanted to go to was very VBAC-friendly, and my MW just looked at the operative report. She did ask about my labor and what led up to the c-section, but I never had to get approval from her to VBAC or anything.
In your case, I would call and ask for a consultation at both places (though I think I've heard you have to make an intake appt with some practices) so you can get feel for each provider. Good luck!
