If you have a daughter, how much do you usually pay for holiday dresses (specifically, Christmas)?
Dressing DS is for holiday photos is pretty inexpensive, but now that I have DD I am finding that the dresses I like are costly (like $40+). Am I being cheap in not wanted to pay that much...?
Where do you shop for holiday dresses? TIA
Re: Girl moms: holiday dresses
No, I'm a cheapskate, too. Paying $40 for a dress seems so high to me.
BUT, my mom usually buys DD (her only grandchild) the cute, smocked holiday dresses for fall and then Christmas. She loves doing it and I am happy to let her, because if it was up to me, DD would definitely be wearing a Carter's dress (which I love, don't get me wrong!) for the holidays. I love the smocked ones, though, and I don't buy anything like that normally, so it's great.

I always buy the year before on sale. Like I got Rachel's Christmas dress which was originally 40+ at BRU clearance in late May for like $8.
One thing you could do is sign up for coupons. I love Children's Place and Gymboree so I am on their mailing lists. I wait till their sales and I use their 15% or more coupons so I get a lot of special stuff for 50% or more.
I have gotten DD's holiday dress from Boden the last 2 years (well, last year and now this season). Each cost about $45 or $50.
She wears the same dress for Thanksgiving with my ILs and Christmas with my parents. Last year's dress also still fit her for Passover dinner with friends this past spring.
I love Hanna Andersson's holiday dresses. I particularly like that I can get coordinating and/or matching dresses for both girls, even though DD1 is in 4t/5t stuff and DD2 is 18 months.
They're pricey at first (around $40-$60), but they always have a big sale -- at least 50% off -- before we actually need the dresses. That knocks it down into the somewhat-reasonable range.
I also get something that doesn't scream "Christmas!!" and that they can wear to church, so it's not just a one-time wear thing. Last year, DD1's dress was gray and white, and looked very Christmassy with red tights; but with white tights, it was just a pretty dress.
