HOLYSHIT! J climbing out of his crib

Okay, so MH and I are just sitting here, talking about Sunday and I look over at the video monitor and J is essentially RIDING the railing of his crib!

Okay, he's back in, so he never actually made it out of the crib, but I fear this is the beginning of the end.

Any advice??

  • Uh-oh.  Time for a big boy bed?  crib tent?
  • no advice...Nathan hopped out of his crib yesterday like it was nothing.  I guess we have to think about converting it to the toddler bed!  They do have those crib tents...but at his age I think we'll just take this as a sign that he's ready to move on.

  • We woke up one morning and Ryan was in Dillon's crib. They DON'T sleep together..haha.

I ran right out and bought crib tents. They work well. I am so not ready to deal with 2 kids in one room in beds that they can freely get out of. Plus, they stay in their cribs and talk for like 30 mins in the morning. Mama doesn't want to have to get up earlier...haha.

  • I would just move to a regular bed. Miles is already in a toddler bed and it wasn't a hard transition at all.
  • L took a header out of his crib a couple months ago.  We converted his crib to a toddler bed and it's been an easy transition.  He stays in it and waits for us to come get him.

The picture in my head of J riding the rail is cracking me up!  As scary as it was, it had to be funny to see!

DS climbed completely out twice about a month or so ago and hasn't done it since.  I was freaking out because he is only now 18 months, and I am not ready to do the toddler bed.  Fortunately, he hasn't tried it since.  However, I think it is harder for him to do in his footie pajamas we have put on him recently.  More slippery than bare feet.

  • I say try a crib tent - we are getting one now in anticiption of when he starts to climb out. I want this child contained in his crib as long as possible.

  • Big boy bed or crib tent are probably your only options.

Monkey Mia has climbed everything in our house but still hasn't attempted to escape the crib. I don't know how we got so lucky?!?!

  • Jack climbed out of his crib at 17 months (a month before the baby was born), scared the crap out of me....I was asleep and he was standing beside my bed poking me!  I sat straight up and asked DH if he had gotten J up and he was like "um, no."  After much debate, we decided to keep him in a crib though - with the new baby coming, changing rooms, and starting preschool, I just didn't want another adjustment for him piled on top of everything else.  We actually put him in a different crib (because the original was staying in the nursery), and he hasn't done it again or even really tried.  At this point though, if he tries/succeeds again, we'll move to his big boy bed...it's already in his room and ready to go, just need to buy toddler rails!
