  • My maiden name is a german name that sounds similar to Roar. My dad has begged me to consider this name, since he didn't have any sons to carry on the family name!

    Love it!

We have a neighbor with a 5 year old boy named Rory (sister Mairead).

I want to slap anyone that likes it for a girl. It pisses me off that a lot of the names going feminine are Irish/Welsh boy names. Enough already. There are a ton more girl names than boy, leave the boys alone!

    We have considered:

    Rory Alasdair

    Rory James

    Rory Thomas

    Rory Jonathan

    Rory Oliver

    Rory Walter

    Rory Francis

    Rory Charles

    I love Rory Alistair!

  • I know a boy named Rory, he is about 13, but I think it is so incredibly girly I would never do it to my son.  I get that it is a boys' name, but so is Avery...

  • I love Rory!  And I totally agree that it's a boy's name.  I've never once heard it and thought "oh, that must be a girl".

And people need to stop using nice boy names like Rory and Avery for girls.

OP, I love Rory for a boy.  I don't think it sounds feminine at all.

  • How the devil is this feminine? It has ROAR in it, for goodness sakes! Damn you, Gilmore Girls!

I like it, anyway. Take it back as a boy's name!

  • As an avid Doctor Who fan I must say that I love Rory for a boy!
