Chapped Cheeks

DS has dry, red cheeks. They seem chapped like you get in the middle of the winter and it's cold/windy or because you have the heat on all the time. Not sure what's causing it, I'm thinking maybe because he always has his hands in his mouth so his cheeks are always getting wet. Anyone else dealing with this and what are you doing, if anything, for it?

Re: Chapped Cheeks

  • dd1 had this.  i put Natural Nipple Butter on it.  you could also use lanolin.  the pediatrician also gave the ok for olive oil.

  • DD has had this a couple times.  Aveeno Eczema lotion worked well for her.

  • DD gets them periodically.  I usually just lotion them at night before bedtime when we're doing out bedtime routine.  We live in Colorado so it's normally dry here, so I try to be hyper vigilant about dryness.  I did read that chapped/bright red cheeks can be an indicator of teething too.

  • Do you bf? I was asking my mom about this the other day and she said that many bf babies have it because their cheeks spend alot of time agains breasts. My ds def has them. I would say aquaphor would work.

  • G used to get those a lot mainly because he loved his pacifier and it held moisture against his cheeks all the time. We used Aquaphor on them and sometimes it helped but as soon as we got rid of the paci it went away.

  • My LO has this too. Lots of drooling going on these days and I think he's rubbing it all over his face. I called pedi and was told to use a wet warm washcloth several times a day to keep them clean and use aquaphor. I also rub BM on them at each feeding. They seem to be better. (I was out of town Monday through Tuesday and I don't think DH or MIL keep on if as much as I do)
