Are all Snugride carseats/ bases interchangeable?

I am so confused.  We had bought a Graco Snugride 32 when I was pregnant with my daughter.  It fits perfectly in both of our cars and the base secures very well.  It has the little red dial/clip in the center.  Well, we need a second carseat.  I will have to take our son to daycare and DH will need to pick him up.  So we got a Graco My Ride 65 convertible so that we could use it longer.  But we tried everything and just couldn't get it secure enough in either car, plus it is really large for our vehicles.  So we decided to take it back and get another snugride.  I can't find a 32 anywhere, do they even sell them anymore?  Well the 30 doesn't fit as well.  It hangs off of the seat and it doesn't get as tight because it doesn't have that red clamp.  We tried the 30 in the 32 base and it seems to work well.  But we can't check the angle.  Are they interchangeable?  If so I am going to try to find another 32 base for the 30.  Sorry if this is a stupid question, I am trying to figure it out but feel lost.

Re: Are all Snugride carseats/ bases interchangeable?

  • They are interchangable, but the weight limit goes to what the base is. So using the 32 in the 30 means not going past 30lbs in weight. Yeah, I far prefer the lock off on the 32/35 base, you get a tight install. What kind of seat belt is it? Grab your manual, because if it's not tightening, I have a sneaking suspicion that you need a locking clip. And only 80% of the base needs to be on the seat. And yes, they still sell the 32.

Oh - and the Myride situation, you will face it again. It will install with some room, but we're talking an inch maybe between. All rf convertibles are like that. My Radian takes up more space than the Myride, you wouldn't like it. Other than that, you are probably looking at the Scenera or the Marathon/Roundabout.

Katkarls - I hope you're around today - I have to take E to dance, can you help Pennynjon?

  • Thanks for all of your help!  The seatbelt is a lapbelt with the autimatic locking, so I don't think it needs the locking clip.  We tried the locking clip with the myride and still couldn't get it tight like I want it.  One more question...do you know if the base that has the lock off that says for 30/35 (that is all they sell around here) is the same length as the 32?  DH has a Ford F150 and I am not sure 80% of the base that came with the 30 is on the seat.  But the 32 fits great.

  • The dimensions of the 35 base:

    Weight: 7.2 lbs
    Depth: 24.5"
    Width: 17.3"
    Height: 10.2"

I can't find the specifications of the 32, but I know from in the store they are the same size. If it helps, I've had our 35 installed in FIL's F150 and got it installed great. It fit best (crew cab) in the middle position. And it met the 80/20 ratio.

    Good luck, got to jet!

  • Why don't you just get a second base to use with the Snugride 32 you already have?  I don't understand why you need to buy another seat.  Most people just leave the bucket part at daycare with the baby.  They have bases on Amazon that have the red clamp that you mentioned: silver or tan and black.  The Graco infant seats and bases are interchangeable with the exception of the Snugride 22.  They have a compatibility chart on their website.

I don't think that we can leave it at daycare.  Thanks for the link to the compatibility chart,  I looked on their site for something like that but couldn't find it.
