need some expert opinions

I want to get one of the followin for niece for Christmas.  DS has one and she LOVES it!  It's her favorite toy when she comes to visit us.  here's my question.  She will be 3 in March.  She knows her letters only when singing the alphabet song.  She can't "pick" them out, KWIM?  So I'm thinking about going with the first one.  But the 2nd one is 3+ so closer to her age.   HELP!!!
