How can I tell when the RLR is out?

I am stripping my diapers for the first time and using RLR; I read some things that said to use detergent with it and others that said you don't have to.  Since I was starting with clean diapers, I used just the RLR.  After everything I'd read, I was expecting there to be tons of suds and that I needed to keep rinsing until there were no more...but I just finished the first cycle and there were no suds at all, during or after.  I guess RLR by itself doesn't cause suds? How do I know when it's out? TIA

I'm not much help, but wanted to say that I've always had suds when I use RLR. I even have trouble rinsing them out after 10+ rinses. What's the reason for stripping? Maybe the problem is not detergent build-up?

Suds could be absent with super hard water too. Do you get suds with detergent? I go a TON from RLR.
