Changing table/pad in the wrong kid's room - Crazy?

My kids are going to be 25 months apart.  My first LO has a short and long dresser that can be used as a changing table.  The new baby has a tall dresser that cannot, and I always assumed I would used LO1's old changing table in new baby's room.

The rooms aren't small, but they aren't big, and I'm wondering if I should just ditch the changing table in new baby's room and put the changing pad on the dresser in LO1s room to save space.  New baby will be sleeping in our room till he is 5-6 months old, or at least till he is STTN.

Has anyone done this?  Can you see any downside?  We stopped using the changing table for LO1 when she was about 1 because she got too long for it and too heavy to lift up, so we just change her on the floor in her room, which works fine.

  • My two will be about 20 months apart. We still use the changing table for our daughter and will leave it in her room to use for both her and our soon to be son. If she potty trains well, I think I'll still leave it in her room because we do have small rooms. I can't think of why it would be a problem!

  • You could switch their dressers.

Though I haven't changed #2 on our changing one single time so I wouldn't bother.

Can't, their dressers are different colors, her room is all white furniture and his is all espresso.  Wasn't planned that way, but a great CL deal came along that I couldn't pass up.

    Thanks girls!

  • I would worry about the possibility of waking one child up to change another child's diaper.

  • As with most things, you can always change it up pretty easily if you realize it isn't working.

Is there another area of the house where you also change diapers? If not, then yes, your system isn't going to work. Your baby might wake up before your older LO, or go to bed after them, so there will be a whole lot of diapering going on without access to the changing table. So unless you want to go in to the room of a sleeping toddler to change a diaper (and who the heck wants to do that?), you'll need to have another diaper changing spot, unless this changing table is in addition to another diaper changing area.

  • My 2 are 19 months apart.  I put the changing table in the baby's room b/c DS1 never needs a diaper in the middle of the night anymore.  During the day they both get changed in the nursery and during the night if I need to change the baby I can do it in his room w/o disturbing DS1.
