Gas pains and screaming before pooping led our pedi to tell us to try gentlease (she was previously on Enfamil Newborn). Before, she occasionally screamed before pooping, the poop was yellow and soft but had little black seed like things in it. Now, I haven't noticed a difference in her gas, but her poop is dark green, very thick (like very thick peanut butter or soft clay) and stinky. She doesn't scream before pooping though. She's only been on Gentlease since Wednesday night. Does this sound like normal poop to you or constipated poop? Or just different due to switching and her body adjusting? Our pedi's office is open tomorrow so if it's still going on then I might give them a call...Just wondering if anyone else had experienced this.
Re: Formula poop question (switched to Gentlease)
We switched our LO to Gentlease too and her poop is exactly how you described.
While GE has helped with the fussiness and gas, the poop situation has not improved.
We've been concerned that our LO is constipated for several weeks (even before switching to Gentlease). She only poops every 2-3 days and seems very uncomfortable the hours leading up to the poop....and while pooping she sometimes screams bloody murder.
Our LO took such a huge poop the other day and was so uncomfortable I went to the pedi. I actually bagged up the poop and took it with me!!!! I read so much about what poop should and shouldn't look like that I wanted to know for sure if it was constipation.
The pedi said that it's not really constipation and we should not be worried. But, since our LO is so uncomfortable he gave us a very mild liquid laxative to add to her formula. We just started it so not sure of the results yet.
This is exactly how DD poops. Somedays are a little looser but it is normally the peanut butter consistancy. She doesn't seem in pain and it sure does stink but she is not at all gassy to when she was on Enfamil Newborn.
