TTC After a Loss

Basic, silly question about charting temp

The nurse at my OB's office recommended charting when we're ready to TTC again, since the M/C can alter your cycle.

I never charted the 1st time because my cycle was like clockwork. Anyway, I know you have to chart at the exact same time every morning. My question is, will getting out of bed to shut my alarm off effect my temp? My alarm clock is across the room so I can avoid hitting snooze 3 times a day...lol.

So can I shut it off and get back in bed, and then take my temp? Silly question, I know!

  • yes that will affect the temperature. You will need to have your thermometer within arms reach, take your temp, then get up to turn off the alarm.

  • I figured it would. I'll move the clock. Thank you!

  • Totally NOT silly. I wish I would've asked this question before I started charting this month! I didn't put my thermometer next to my bed until CD 7. I'm also thinking next month, if I have to keep charting, I'll set my alarm for much earlier than I have been. Taking my temp when I need to be up for work, and so near the end of my sleep cycle, makes me super restless in the morning.

  • It really is amazing how the slightest activity can affect your temps.  I did chart the cycle I got pregnant, and I just laid the thermometer on the edge of my nightstand so that I didn't even have to open my eyes to temp in the a.m.  I am also planning on temping again to get a sense of what my body is up to, since I don't like being left in the dark!
