Mama's who already have a LO under 2 and still rock them

I still rock DD to sleep at night, we both love it. Even though she will be 2 when LO comes, I cant imagine not sitting in her chair and rocking and reading her stories before bed. But... I cant imagine not having a glider for the new LO's room either. It is a big expense I would like to avoid if possible, but I don't see a way around buying another glider.

What are you doing?

  • We're in the same boat. We are changing her bed into a full this weekend and I'm thinking we will move bed time routine to her bed (reading, snuggling, & prayers). If not, we do have a rocking chair in our living room but I like to keep things in her room at bed time. We will def. not be purchasing another glider.

ETA: I just realized we are both in our 11th week and my DD is Addilyn Grace. :)

  • I honestly havn't even thought that far into it yet. I imagine we'll just do reading and snuggles in bed instead of on the glider. If you absolutely need the rocking, then maybe move the glider into YOUR room, a neutral spot, and rock both babies in there. Of course this may or may not work depending on the size of your house and how close all the rooms are, if LO is actually falling asleep in the rocker and if they'll wake up if you have to move them too far, etc. There could be several variables with that, but I think it could work.

  • Wow.  Seriously, I had never even THOUGHT of that.  My little one is over two, but we still rock him to sleep every night.

One more thing to think about, I guess.  :)

This is exactly my plan - I am going to give DD her big girl room for Christmas and do stories in her new bed. I'll move the glider to the new nursery. We also have a glider downstairs, but I would miss having it if I put one in each kid's room.  Plus, I want to open up some space to give DD some more toys in her room, so the glider is an easy choice to eliminate.

This is a good plan, DD will probably be okay to convert her bed in a few months. I just want to make sure I do it far enough in advance that she doesnt associate the big girl bed with the baby making her schedule change

  • I still rock DD to sleep as well. But I don't see why I would need two gliders. I have one in a central place (it is also light enough to move easily).
  • I rock my DD and will continue to rock her. I plan to buy another rocker/glider.

  • DS just turned 2 but still likes to be rocked before bed.  We will move the glider to my room or the spare bedroom a couple months before baby.

  • I plan to continue rocking DS until we move him into his "big boy" bedroom, than I will just lay down in bed with him and read books and snuggle before we turn out the lights. I dont see the need to buy another rocker.

  • Well do not make the same mistake I made!  I was so careful about everything, but the glider.  I had DH move it to the family room when DD came home and OMG DS flipped out.  I should have done it sooner and started reading books down there.  I did have another glider, but that was my favorite.
