This is a list for all ladies planning an unmedicated, vaginal delivery. Please post here with your due date, and whether you plan to deliver at home, hospital or birth center to be added to the list. If there are any special notes you would like added (w/doula, out of country, waterbirth, birth method, etc.) then please list that as well! I do ask that, if you want to be added, you plan to come back and join in the discussion regularly, as well as plan to share your birth story with us when the time comes. You are also MOST welcome to come back after your birth and give us the benefit of your experience! Check in will be on weekdays around 11 a.m. CST on the Babies on the Brain board.
Congratulations to all the September Mamas! Good luck to all our October Mamas!

Tip of the Week: Kegels!
From the Mayo Clinic website: (https://www.mayoclinic.com/health/kegel-exercises/WO00119)
"When your pelvic floor muscles weaken, your pelvic organs descend and bulge into your vagina, a condition known as pelvic organ prolapse. The effects of pelvic organ prolapse range from uncomfortable pelvic pressure to leakage of urine or feces. Fortunately, Kegel exercises can strengthen pelvic muscles and delay or maybe even prevent pelvic organ prolapse.
Kegel exercises are recommended especially during pregnancy. Well-toned pelvic floor muscles may make you more comfortable as your due date approaches. You may be less likely to develop urine leakage ? common near the end of pregnancy and prone to persist after you've given birth.
Finally, Kegel exercises ? along with counseling and sex therapy ? may be helpful to women who have persistent problems reaching orgasm."
QOTD:
All right folks, fess up. Who is doing their Kegels regularly? Are there any other things you are doing now to prepare for labor?

Re: *** Natural Birth Mamas to be Check-In ***
I have just started trying to do them "regularly" which means whenever I happen to think about it! If it will help with labor, seex, and later in life with prolapse, I am ALL for it!!
I'm just trying to get through the first tri...I'll worry about doing things for labro later
I personally have let it slide. Oops.
I haven't really been exercising either, but we're attacking both this weekend. My goal is to walk a mile to 2 miles every day and do yoga twice a week. I need to start doing kegels whenever I think about it.
I have a book that has a serious of exercises that are supposed to take 20-30 minutes and can be done at work or while watching the tv to help stregthen the pelvic floor and the tranverse abs to prepare for labor. No time like the present to start that up again, right?

I'm doing them like a crazy lady. My OB said I'm at a higher risk of prolapse because of the back-to-back-to-back pregnancies. I already had some damage to my bladder with my 2nd delivery and the kegels are helping.
One of my OBs specializes in pelvic floor reconstruction and I have no desire to pay her a visit to reconstruct anything for me!
Gah! No, I do not do them regularly. Although once I read the word I started doing them. hahaha.
The only thing I'm doing daily to prepare is working on my Hypnobabies hypnosis scripts every night like they say.
I hate myself for not doing my kegels regularly. Basically whenever I'm reminded.
I also do squats to stretch everything out to prevent tearing.
Hi,
Please add me to the list. I'm due 12/20/08, delivering at a hospital, with an OB. We're using the Bradley method.
QOTD- I do Kegels almost every day, but usually just one set of 10, which I know is not the recommended amount. I've been trying to stretch and squat every day as recommended in the Bradley materials. There are a lot of other exercises I'm planning on doing, but haven't started yet. I might take a prenatal yoga class or two:-)
Could you change me to June 16 instead of June 14? Thx.
QOTD: I am not so good about remembering to do my kegels...
Like the above posters, I only do them when I'm reminded. I need to do better. My mom told me that when she was pregnant, she did them every time she sat a red light (one of her nurses recommended it). But I don't drive to work, I take the bus, so I never think of it. I need to find another way to remember...
