Moby wrap help!

Anyone know of a good resource for how to use the Moby wrap correctly/which holds to use? I thought I saw a DC baby wearing group someplace. I really am missing my baby bjorn about now!

TIA!

Re: Moby wrap help!

  • I've heard that there are how-to videos on YouTube, so you might want to check there. Also, you can ask over on the Attachment Parenting board, lots of moby users there.

  • I felt like I needed a PhD to figure out how to use my Moby. I got mine from another mom who never figured it out and had only used it once!

YouTube videos were extremely helpful to me. I thought the instructions that came with the moby were basically useless. YouTube is the way to go. Just type in "Moby tutorial" and you'll get a lot of helpful videos.

I know there is a babywearing group in Takoma Park, MD and I think they actually have an event happening soon. I just looked it up. Here's the info:

How am I supposed to do the dishes, nurse my newborn, and chase after my
three year old all at the same time? Welcome to babywearing. With a baby
carrier you can take a hike and do your grocery shopping while remaining in
close contact with your baby or toddler.

Come try on different carriers and find one that won?t hurt your back, your
baby, or your budget. Kids can bring a doll or stuffed animal and decorate
their own sling or mei tai. Bring your own baby carriers you are no longer
using to trade or give away, or get help using them more comfortably, safely
or in novel ways. Borrow a baby carrier from our sling library.
    Babywearing door prizes too!

Babywearing International is co-sponsoring this meeting with Takoma
Attachment Parenting which means you?ll get great help from experienced
    Volunteer Babywearing Educators.

    Saturday, October 15
    4:30 - 6:30pm
    Heffner Community Center
42 Oswego Avenue, Takoma Park, MD

Following the meeting, from 6:30 - 7:30 PM is a potluck dinner. Bring a dish
to share and stay for some supportive, social interaction.

Takoma Attachment Parenting (TAP) helps parents develop healthy, close
connections with their children through family-to-family support. We have
monthly meetings as well as a listserv, libraries, and activities. Children
    are always welcome. Free.

  • Don't know if you've already looked here - but their site has step by step instructions for each "hold". Don't give up - it takes some practice but you'll get used to it - it's my lifesaver!

  • Here's the D.C. group:  https://beltwaybabywearers.blogspot.com/

We have a meeting in Silver Spring on Monday.  We also have a co-sponsored event with Takoma Attachment Parenting on 10/15 in honor of Int'l Babywearing Week.

Also, I can probably recommend some videos.  The mommas on the AP board are knowledgeable and helpful, too.

ETA:  There's also a group meeting in Baltimore this Saturday 10/8.  Let me know if you want details.

  • I am not sure where you are at, but just in case you are not in MD, Beltway Babywearers is meeting this coming Wednesday at Tyson's Pimmit Hill library.

I found the videos on the Moby site helpful for getting started.

  • thx ladies! very helpful! I'm in Fairfax, so I'm going to try and check out the Tyson's meeting! Do I just show up, or do I need to contact someone via the blog site? I can't wait to master the moby and meet other local moms!
  • You just go.  Attendance varies from meeting to meeting.  There's a mix of newbies and experienced babywearers.  There's usually an intro of everyone who's there.  Attendees have a chance to mention why the're there (help wearing twins, help with a carrier they own, etc.).  Then there's a demo of the 5 major types of carriers with a discussion of the pros/cons of each.  Then you get one-on one help and an opportunity to try carriers in the lending library.

     Have fun!

  • C-Charm, I'm not sure if you're still reading this post, but do you think I'd be able to try out a mei tai at the Takoma Park meeting next weekend? I'm thinking about getting one, but it would be nice to see if my LO will tolerate a high back carry in a mei tai before I shell out the money for one. He loves the Ergo, but only in a front carry. I think it's because he can't see as well when he's on my back, because he sits so low in the Ergo.

Yep.  We'll make it happen for you, momma.  You might also be able to borrow a mei tai and take it for a spin for some days.

I'm also sewing kiddie mei tais to give away!  I'm so excited!   See you next weekend!
