Pediatrics in Coral Gables/ Questions

Hi-

I heard from this board before that Coral Gables Pediatrics at Village of Merrick Park is a great practice... can anyone recommend a specific doctor they like? I just called and they have about 5, so I am not sure which one to see. I am not due until late March/early April, so I know I have time, but wanted to get an appt for 2 months before to get to talk to the doctor...

By the way, how does it work once you do select the doctor? I am having the baby at Mercy hospital, so I imagine he/she is not the one discharging the little one from the hospital...? So is the baby in the care of the hospital's pediatrician until we go home?

Also any other suggestions or good practices in Coral Gables/South Miami are welcome! Thanks a bunch for any input!

Re: Pediatrics in Coral Gables/ Questions

  • We chose Dr. Llanso at CG Pediatrics. I really like him. From what i hear all of them are great. Dr. Erdman and Dr. Stoudt are younger and Dr. Toledo Valido is the female. When my DD was born Dr. Stoudt was the one who came to see her all 3 days at South Miami..The office is great and they have a system which worked well for me since i was a first time mom.

If I had any questions, i would call them and they have 2 ladies who answer all your questions...

  • We see Dr. Stoudt. I work at Miami Children's Hospital and he did his residency there and was an attending who, when I had to admit a kid, I admitted under him. He left the hospital about 2 years ago (I think) and is now at Gables Pediatrics. He is very intellegent (and I experienced that first hand with our mutual patients) and has an excellent bedside manner. We switched pedi's when my son was born, so he's been his patient since birth, but my daughter was at another practice with a woman and since about 12 months would remember and FLIP OUT when we were even in the parking lot. I was a wreck at her 2 year check-up with him b/c I thought she would go nuts, but he had her laughing, talking, etc and she didn't even cry during her shots. He made her feel so comfortable.

I delivered my son in Boca, so obviously he didn't go up there, LOL. We saw the neonatologist in the hospital everyday, we were discharged at 3 days and  he saw Dr. Stoudt at 4 days (Christmas Eve!).

  • Salinero is my daughter's pediatrician. I love him but I'm biased because he was my pediatrician my whole life. We've seen Stoudt and Jimenez and they both have an AMAZING bedside manner with the kids. I like Llanso too and I've heard great things about Erdman (sp?). The only one I have no experience with is Toledo-Valdedo. Edelstein is awesome but he's older than the rest and semi-retired...I don't think he sees new patients. The practice definitely sees newborns out of Mercy. However, they're just on a rotation so it might not be your chosen pediatrician who sees your baby at the hospital. It's just whoever is on call at Mercy that day.

  • Thank you SO much, you guys are awesome!! I will definitely go to the practice, just trying to decide on which one of the doctors would be a best fit.

Hope you all have a great weekend!

  • we see dr. efren salinero. we choose him because he was my husband's doctor growing up. he is great. (: once the baby is born in the hospital a nurse will ask you who your baby's doctor is and they will call him/her and they will call him/her to come to the hospital.

  • i have heard great things about all of them, but dr. stoudt treats my son.  he came to the hospital the day my son was born and made several follow up calls and visits when my son was in the NICU even though my son was under the care of a neonatologist while in the hospital.  great with a fussy and colicky newborn as well as stressed out first time parents.
