About a month ago I wrote a letter to the hospital where I had my cesarean letting them know how sad I was that I missed out on the first three hours of my daughter's life due to their policy. They responded very quickly saying they were investigating my concerns and would continue to be in contact with me.
Today I got a letter saying that they have since changed their policies so that mothers who had a cesarean would not go to the typical anesthesia recovery unit, but would instead go to the maternity unit where they'd have immediate access to their babies.
Unfortunately for me they were still working on the training for that process when I was in the hospital in November and they didn't start the new process until January 3. But, I am very happy to know that future mothers there will have a better experience than I did. And it was nice to be listened to.
Re: Got a letter back from the hospital
OP - I see you are from Lancaster. I had the same issue over at York. It took about 3 and 1/2 hours for me to see my baby. He had a low glucose number (I had GD) and needed some formula right at the beginning, but I still don't think that it should have taken 3 1/2 hours for me to get my baby. When I told my lactation consultant, she encouraged me to report the problem. After reading your post, I think I will do that. Thanks!
