Anyone have early teethers?

At LO's 2 month visit we were told he could cut a tooth around 4 months old.  The Ped checked his gums and they were incredibly swollen, he drools buckets and he is irritable.

Now he is one week away from being 3 months and he is a mess.  He sleeps great at night and in the morning he is pleasant but by the afternoon he is extremely irritable.  He breaks out in a teething rash on his cheeks and chin, the drool is more excessive and he is so uncomfortable.  The Pedi said we could use orajel but she worries about him swallowing and numbing his vocal chords so I opted out of that.  We use Hyland's but less than the reccomended dosage because he's still so little.  Last night I gave him tylenol but less than his reccomended dose and he calmed down right away.

 

I feel so bad, I don't want to keep giving him tylenol so I'm trying to find other ways to console him.  He can't hold anything yet so it's hard to give him teethers or a frozen washcloth and spits out binkies.

My LO is a really drooly mess lately, so I can't tell if this is the beginning of teething, or if he's just slobbery, lol! He likes blowing spit-bubbles while he plays, it's kinda cute...

Totally guessing here, but I would say that the Tylenol is probably safe for a while. It's good to know what works if all else fails, ya know? So no binkies or teethers yet, hm? I'm totally going to get flamed for this, and I know it, but bear with, it's the only thing I can think of right now. When my mom was a kid and teething, her mother would take a drop or two of bourbon and rub it on her gums. She said it worked great, and it never did any damage since it was such a small amount. I know it was forever ago, but a current day friend of mine seconded the method. So apparently it's still a viable method, 55 years later, lol. Flame away, haha!
