hey just wondering how many people know of people getting pregnant with twins on clomid? or know the actual chances of getting twins on clomid. im starting it in a few days and it would be amazing to get twin
I think my RE said it was about an 8% chance while on Clomid.
Twins would be a blessing, I'm sure, but twins do carry much more risk to you and potential babies. Never mind the extra expenses and such.
To reduce the chance of HOM, you should be properly monitored while on Clomid. See the New to Trouble-TTC link at the top of the main TTTC page or my blog has info too: https://mrs-slick.blogspot.com/p/infertility-basics.html
I heard the same (10%) I used to wish for twins too, until I've talked to mothers who have had them. Although they love them (obviously!!) be careful what you wish for. You can't concentrate on just one child, because they both need you all the time. It takes a huge physical toll on your body, and also twins are more likely to be born premature at lower birth weights. I'm not saying they aren't a blessing, but even if I'm to go on Clomid I'll still pray for one, healthy baby If I get more, that's cool too!
TTC #1 Since January 2011 Dx: PCOS and Anovulatory April 2012 BFP! Beta 1 5/22 - 1,000+ Beta 2 5/24 - 3,009 1st u/s 6/5 - TWINS!!! A/S Reveals we are Team PURPLE!!! 12/27 - surprise BFP - due August 2014
This is my 1st round of clomid! My NP said 9% twins, 1% triplets, & 90% of pregnancies will be a single baby....hopefully we're both in a percentage our first round!
TTC since July 2010 Me 26 (unexplained), DH 28 (SA GREAT!) Charting since April 2011 Nurse Practitioner Fertility Specialist 9/11 Provera, Clomid for 3 months with no response. Metformin 1/12 to 3/12 with no regularity took break until 10/12 CD1 11/9 + clomid 150, 4 follies (1 - 22mm) + hcg, progesterone level 9.3, put on progesterone supps, BFN 12/7 CD1 12/9 + clomid 150, 2 follies 12mm & 13mm + no trigger, +OPK 12/23 + progesterone supps CD18, progesterone blood test=14.4, BFN 1/9 CD 1 1/11, clomid 150 CD3-7 & dexamethasone CD 3-12, u/s 1/23 showed 3 follies 20+, triggered w/ hcg, started progesterone supps 1/25, 7dpo bw sched for 2/1
My RE's office has a plaque that says: "Be careful what you wish for. Products of Clomid" And above and below it are him holding twins. I believe they are his, because he mentioned that he dealt with IF himself. And they kind of look like him.
That being said, most everyone I know that has twins is from IVF putting two embryo's back in - not from clomid & IUI. BUT, know that if you are monitored you can have more than one follie and get twins (I had more than one both cycles we did clomid/IUI). And I totally agree with PP that twins mean possible premature birth, low birth weight, complications in labor, months of bed rest bored at home, twice the cost of things like clothes and college, etc. etc. etc.
Yes, we all want babies. Yes, twins can be fun and 'cute'. But what you should be thinking of is becoming parents & the health of you and your future babies. Not what sounds 'cool'. Spend a little time on the multiples board maybe to get an idea of what Mom's of Multiples (MoMs) deal with daily.
My doctor told me that it only increases your risk by about 5% but since I already have twins like crazy in my family, there's a higher chance that I will have twins.
PCOS--TTC since 11/2010:
5 cycles of Clomid: all BFN, 1 cycle of Follistim:CP
1 year break thanks to deployment.
1 cycle Follistim: BFN, Lap to remove peritubal cyst May 2013
2 cycles Follistim + trigger: BFN, Gonal F +IUI April 2014: BFP!!!!!!

Clomid only increases your odds of having twins by about 5-10%.
Be careful what you wish for. Twin pregnancies come with risk to both mom and babies.
