Trouble TTC

2ww after iui and wine

Curious what you ladies think or what you do. Iui #2 was Sunda. Is it ok to have a glass or 2 of wine tonight or does alcohol impact implantation? I don't plan on drinking for the rest of the 2ww. We are having dinner with another couple tonight. I have heard to limit intake of alcohol and caffeine (I don't drink pop, maybe one cup of coffee a week, and a glass of wine once or twice a week) and I have also heard to treat the 2ww as if you are pregnant. Just curious if 'drink till it's pink'is ok after iui?

Re: 2ww after iui and wine

  • 20 months ago I didn't drink during the 2 ww.  Now, I just try to be reasonable.  A glass or 2 of wine won't hurt you or a future baby.  You don't share a blood line with the fetus for the first few weeks.

After more than 2 years of fertility treatments, FET did the trick!
IVF March 2012 - BFP! - Severe OHSS = 8 days in the hospital in kidney failure
    No heartbeat at 10w6d
    FET August 27,2012 = BFP!
    It's a boy!

  • oh we are cycle buddies...I just had my IUI on sunday too. I am not drinking...I just don't want anything to jeopardize our chances, since I really don't know if I can handle another cycle of disappointment. I would feel too guilty if it were negative and blame myself that it must have been the alcohol (I know, it seems silly, but thats how my mind works). My friend who had an IUI a couple months ago went with the drink til its pink frame of mind and she is now pregnant, no problems.

  • When we first started out I cut out all alcohol, coffee, soda etc.  No baby yet, so I am definitely in the drink till it's pink category.  Unless you are going on a bender (which I doubt you are, lol)  I think you will be just fine.  GL!

  • I have cut back quite a bit.  I was once a glass or two of wine a night kind of girl.  However, since our TTC has turned into TTTC, I really limit alcohol and caffeine.  That said, I had a beer yesterday and I was 5 dpiui.  I decided that my seriously stressful day yesterday was more detrimental to anything that might be going on in there than one beer!  I think that I might be even more cautious--as in no alcohol, no caffeine--during an injectible cycle though, if we get to that point.

  • At 2dpiui, it's not a problem at all to have a glass or two of wine. In fact, some research shows that red wine can actually increase blood flow and make the lining even more receptive to implantation. Who knows if that's true, but I really, truly do not believe that your drinking tonight would hurt anything.

  • During the 2ww I cut out caffeine and alcohol but that is just my preference.  A glass or two with dinner I don't think would impact implantation.  Dr.'s say that it is safe to have a glass of wine while pregnant so I think you will be fine.

  • I have a glass or 2 a night, but in the 2WW for IUI, I had one glass while out to dinner with friends. Other than that, I cut it out completely. I have also heard that red wine thickens your lining, and even read to drink red wine in between egg retrivals and tranfers to help. So, I think as long as you are not going to over-induldge, you will be fine.

Tons of love and ((hugs)) to my IF sister NMscubagirl

  • I used to obsess and not drink any caffeine or alcohol. After so many cycles with no BFP in sight, I've let up on my restrictions. I just use common sense. I'm not going to go out and have an energy drink or finish a bottle of wine by myself, but I may have one cup of coffee or a glass of wine. According to my doc, it won't hurt anything.

  • I used to avoid alcohol completely, but by cycle 16 I changed my attitude. You should be ok as long as you're not chugging a bottle of wine a night. In fact, my RE actually recommended I have a glass or wine the night of IUI #4. I think it was partly to calm me down and partly to encourage BDing.
