New to The Bump

Update, Positive then negative (LONG)

Hi girls, I posted on here a few days ago about getting a Positive FRER and then a negative Digital.  I got many different thoughts, most were " You're Pregnant, woo hoo!" Others were "Be cautious, call a doctor, could be early but who knows" I want to thank everyone for the advice and it really made me call the doctor just in case.  So today AF arrived after 7, count them 7 positive tests.  So obviously shaken up and upset, I went to the doctor and it turns out I had a Chemical Pregnancy.  Since this is my first time even getting a positive and trying for that matter, I was confused but learned a lot about it.  Turns out it is very common and happens without many people even knowing.  I brought my tests in to show him and he said, "Yes, these are positive, yes you were pregnant, but sometimes the fertilized egg just isn't viable and this is what probably happened"  He said it happens more often then people realize, but most people wait til they miss their periods to test.  I tested at 14DPO and 15DPO, all positive.  So I learned to never test that early again and to wait next time til I miss my period. I was only 4 weeks, but it is still upsetting.  My husband and I were very excited already but very cautious.  The Dr still sent me for bloodwork saying there is a small hope that it possibly is just too early to detect on pregnancy tests, but believes I had a CP.  He actually never used that term though, he used "Early miscarriage" which was even harder to hear! The good part....I DID get PREGNANT and that's an absolute plus.  I am 28 and healthy, so I should be able to have healthy pregnancies from here on out.  He isn't worried, so I guess I shouldn't be either.  However, I do feel like I am grieving the loss of possible child and the dream I had for this baby.  It was just hard going from a high "Yay!  Positive, I'm pregnant, woo hoo" to "Nope, sorry, it's gone" I'm sure some of you have gone through this, if possible, I would like to hear other stories, I know I am not alone. Thanks for listening! :)

Re: Update, Positive then negative (LONG)

  • I'm so sorry.

Yes, a good 50% of pregnancies end in very early miscarriage, and often women don't even know they're pregnant. They just think they had a late period.

It can be very hard, especially when you get attached to the idea that you're having a baby, and all of a sudden you're not. Bloodwork will also help determine when your hormone levels get back down to 0 so you can know when to cycle again.

I've had 3 m/c's, all early. Not fun. I hope that your  next pregnancy is healthy and happy.
