Food Allergy

Test result questions

My pediatrician tested my 10 month old for food allergies, because I was nervous about him getting a flu shot. His results are 8 for peanuts and 1.5 for egg whites. (.5 for milk and soy)

I haven't heard from my doctor yet, but she left me a message saying she'd like to speak to me about the results. I know that they are "high" but I was just wondering if 8 and/or 1.5 are something to worry about. I won't be able to talk to my doctor for a while, so just wondering if I can get some opinions in the meantime.

Re: Test result questions

  • If i'm reading it correctly than i would avoid peanuts and eggs.

Was your DD breastfed or formula fed? did you ever see issues?  (eczema, blood in stool, stomach cramps, scratching...)

Here is a chart that i usually go by..  Looks like peanuts and eggs are at level 3 (High level) and Milk and soy are at 1 (low level)..

At her age the results can be tricky and they may not be fully correct and they fluctuate a lot at that age. But better be safe than sorry and stay away from the allergens.

The numbers simply indiciate the chances of a reaction.  They do not correlate at all with the severity of a reaction.  For example- your son could have a "3" for milk and break out in a rash if exposed and my son could have a "3" for milk and go into ana shock if exposed.  There's no way to know what kind of a reaction you'll get.

  • Thank you for your help!

He has always been forumla fed. He has also always had eczema.

My son was referred to an allergist and will have some skin tests in November, but am meeting with the allergist for a consultation today.  I just can't believe he tested positive for all 4 tests!  They are having me pick up an epi-pen for him today.  It's all so scary.
