Baby Names

Have you ever asked your parents to rename you and your siblings?

(I dont post here a lot anymore so sorry if this has ever been asked)

I asked my mom what she would name us if she were naming three children now (1 boy, 2 girls) and her choices are way different than our real real names. She has always had hippy tendencies but was a lot more shy and less confident in her choices (by her own admission) when she was younger and opted for very traditional yet trendy names of her time. (Jennifer, Christina, David) If naming us now she would go for Pepper or Dawn, Juniper and she couldn't come up with a boy name but she said she probably wouldn't pick David today. Soooo different!

Have you ever asked your parents this? If not, you should, it's pretty interesting! (It took her a while to come up with some things because she kept insisting she loved our names and she couldn't imagine anything else so I asked her to name 3 new kids born today of the same sex as her children)

My 2 girls, both born on a Friday the 13th, are exactly 2 years, 2 months, 2 hours and 2 minutes apart! And Baby Boy joined us October 11, 2013! image

  • I've asked my mom this a couple times, and the answer is always the same. She always tells me had I been a boy,I would have been a JR(my dad's name is Kevin),and since I wasn't,she never really thought about it again.

She's told me two other girls' names she wishes she used:Laurel and Jordan.Either would have been an improvement.lol

  • My mom always talks about how much she loves my name even though I think it is boring (Beth - not Elizabeth - just Beth).

My mom still tells me she loves my name and how it was the best pick ever, blah blah blah.So she's obviously still delusional (Starr is definitely NOT the best pick, although I have grown into it).

  • My mom would have named my older sister Jessica Riann (her name is Angela Nicole) and I would have been Sydney Mae.

  • My Mom always wanted me to be Michaela as my dad is Michael but he hated it. I ended up being a Katherine but even though I like my name I really like my Mom's 1st choice. When I was in HS and there were a bunch of other Kate's I really wished my Mom had won out but now it doesn't matter.

My brother is named after my two grandfather's so their boy pick was always that from the start.

I haven't asked my mom what she would name kids if she were naming them now.

  • If I had been a boy, I would have been Stanislaus.  I am pretty sure my parents lacked proper taste on that one.  Thankfully I was a girl, and I LOVE my name.

  • My moms pick was angelina and instead my dad insisted I be named after her, bernadette
  • Yup, and I like the answer even less than the name I did get. Mom didn't change her mind from the name she picked (and dad vetoed) when I was born; Nanette Joy. Barf. Ick! Dad's picks were better, Sarah Leigh and Sarah Elizabeth. I still rarely answer to my own name because I don't like it much and when I hear it, it doesn't feel like my name. I go by a ton of nicknames, including Bella or Shell.
  • I was going to be Samantha. Ick. My grandpa chose my name (Amanda).

  • Yep! My mom was pretty confident in her 20's and picked names she loved (and still loves) but she really loves some names that my dad vetoed. Some of her vetoed names were:

    Margot, Carly, and Eve

She also likes Carl for a boy (but we never had brothers).

I like Margot and Eve... they "pop" more than our very traditional names. However, the names she did choose (Elizabeth, Sarah, Monica) are great.

  • I haven't, but I don't think she would change her mind now. She loves my name.

She never had an u/s and swore up and down that I was a boy for the entire pregnancy. She didn't even bother to pick a girl name before I was born so she ended up naming me after one of her favorite actresses. Had I been a boy, I would have been Christopher.

  • It's funny that a lot of people like their real name more. I'd prefer one of my Moms zany new choices to be one of the billions of Jennifers!
