Playing together? Talking?

I have been lurking for a while getting lots of advice from your posts so now I have a question.

My two boys are almost 2 and 10 months. My oldest DS is not talking much and just does not seem to care that the baby is in the room unless he is playing with one of his toys then he goes and takes it away. He seems to just kinda be in his own little world. He doest ask for things and is not putting two words together. My questions is do your babies play with each other share toys etc? and How well did your kids talk at this age?

My MIL has me worried and I just think maybe he's not ready to talk. I am a SAHM and he does not see other kids very often. Any suggestions on teaching communication skills???

How many words is your LO using on a daily basis? By age 2, kids have between 50-300 words on average and are stringing together 2 word sentences. If your LO is using less than 20 and/or not communicating his needs, I would definitely get him evaluated by early intervention. We have recently started in this program with my DS (21 months, only 10 words used regularly) and I would recommend it. It's a lot easier to get them caught up to their peers when they're still small instead of waiting until they are older.

You definitely should find ways for your children to be around other kids frequently. I also SAH and my kids get interaction with other kids on a daily basis. Story time at the library, get zoo passes to the zoo/aquarium children's musuem, find playgroups-the possibilities are endless.

My son does share toys with his sister and understands social etiquette more than other kids his age, but I dont think that's necessarily the norm. I wouldnt be concerned with the lack of sharing, but if he isnt verbally communicating his needs I would definitely get that checked out.

How do I go about getting an  appointment with Early Intervention? He only says about 15 words and not regularly the only thing he says regulary is Dada and outside. Thats what has me concerned. I do want to take care of this before it goes on to long. Thanks for your comment!

Call your pediatrician's office and explain that you are concerned. You can get the contact info from them.

Also, I found mine from just doing a google search of my state.
