Nanny rates?

I'm looking for a ballpark idea of what to offer or expect to pay a nanny for going back to work. I'll be gone 12-14 hrs/day (depending on commute time and patient volume) 2 days/wk. I also might offer the possibility of the nanny doing a half day another day each week if she would rather work more hours. I was thinking $15/hr, does that sound right? We live just south of Dunwoody, just barely ITP. Said nanny would be watching my then 2 m/o DD all day, DS half day, and taking DS to and picking up from school.

Also any recommendations for websites or companies to help find a nanny? We used care.com to find our last nanny back in NY, and while I appreciated they background check access it still involved a lot of sorting through so-so candidates. Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Nanny rates?

  • I'm not in the ATL area as we recently moved, but we had a part time nanny in Indy and we paid her 13/hr for our 2 kids when she "babysat" for date nights and paid her $350/week for nannying.  She was responsible for our children for up to 13 hours a day and also took my oldest son to and from preschool.  We also compensated her for health insurance and gas money.

We used care.com and I loved it, however you do have to complete a lot of the legwork yourself.  If you don't mind paying the additional (sometimes outrageous) fees associated with a nanny agency, I start there.

Good luck! And congrats on going back to work!

  • We paid $540/week for one kid 9:00-5:30 M-F. We also gave her two weeks paid vacation and an extra paycheck at Christmas. We are in Cumming. She watched ds and cleaned our house. We paid her the same when ds went to preschool two mornings per week because she had to get here at 9:00 and drop him at 9:30 and then pickup at 12:30.

  • I think $15/hour is fairly typical for 2 kids intown.  Depending on how much she drives, you may want to pay her extra for gas.  This is what we do with our nannny.  You may want to try enannysource.com in addition to care.com
  • That sounds about right to me. We've had good luck with care.com and sittercity.com. I totally agree you have to do A LOT of legwork though to weed through all the applicants. It's really a time consuming process. We just went through this :)
