I love Maggie too.. just not Margaret. I like some Old Lady names but this one I just never could get on board with. I would prefer Magnolia or even Margot with nn Maggie
LOVE Margaret/Maggie. It's at the top of our girl list. It's timeless--I work with a 50-year-old Margaret, have a 30-year-old friend Margie, know a 12-year-old Maggie and my friend's niece, born in May is a Margee.

Old and outdated names are coming back in style hence the popularity of Olivia. Don't worry in a few years there will be thousands of girls named Margaret!

Not outdated at all. It's in the "classic" category for me with names like Elizabeth and Katherine. Love Maggie, too.
ETA: While I do consider Gertrude to be an "old lady" name, I don't think Margaret falls into that category. If you were using the nn Peg or Peggy, sure, but not the full name at all.
Margaret doesn't really strike me as old lady. Classic, yes. Old, no. Plus, it's one of those rare names that avoids being overly used AND avoids being weird all at once. I say go for it.
It's a great name. My BFF used to hate her name (in high school.. it was the 80s) but now is so happy she was named Margaret. She doesn't go by Maggie... she's Margaret.

I have a crazy aunt Margie..
i'm not a huge fan of hte name..
but i'm of the belief a name can't really be outdated, only not used often anymore which is always a plus

Nooooo! Margaret is a gorgeous name! And it has so many awesome NNs... Maggie, Molly, Milly...
We love the name Molly and I was pushing for Margaret as a full name b/c I love it... DH does not. If she's Molly, she will just be Molly. Sigh.
Me too. Maggie is a dog's name and a cheesy Rod Stewart song to me.
