Did you hire an attorney? Do it online? DH and I have gone back and forth about the pros and cons of just going online and doing the fill-in-the-blanks style that are notarized vs. actually having an attorney complete.
Lawyer. I am a lawyer and I had a lawyer do mine. He brought up things I didn't even think of. Worth every penny, IMO. the whole point of doing one is to that people don't fight about stuff once you're gone and waste $ that should be going to your kids. It should be done right.
We used an attorney--it was the kick in the pants we needed to just get it done. We'd probably still be waffling over answers to some of the questions if we hadn't. Plus, there's a whole lot more to a will than "who gets the kids and money". Having someone right there to ask questions of and get advice from was invaluable. My BIL has been "working on" his will for years (online) because he's gotten stumped on certain things and needs advice. He's not a real go-getter to find answers, so it just sits there, unfinished.
We used a lawyer. We needed a lot done though, estate, trusts, etc. so we wanted someone we could trust.
My dad pretty unexpectedly (3 weeks after a leukemia diagnosis) and I was the executrix of the estate and he didn't really have much in order. I had gotten him a will a week before he died but then I had to deal with probate and a lot of hassle that I wanted to avoid for my family/kids.
Re: s/o to the will post: where did you do your will?
Use a lawyer who knows what they are doing. Don't waste your money elsewhere.
Seriously, it is not that much.
This.
We used a lawyer. The guy gave us a great deal, and we ended up paying less than $200.
