I think it needs something very feminine since it is such a unisex name. I would go with something like Catherine, Caroline, Elizabeth, Hope, Pearl
This exactly! Avery is one of the only unisex names I love for both, but I do agree that you should do a very feminine MN so the name reads GIRL for teachers, employers, etc. I like PP suggestions of Pearl, Elizabeth, Hope, and Claire. I'd also suggest Rose, Mae, Grace, Olivia, Sophia, and Elise.
I have an Avery, here is our list of middle names we considered: Claire, Paige, June, Joy, Elizabeth, Noelle, Irene, Mae, Michelle, Alexis, Renee and Nicole.
ETA: Forgot to add Corinne.

Re: Middle name for Avery?
I LOVE the name Avery! - Unfortunately Daddy doesn't
My pairing would be Avery Harper
I have 6 year old named Avery and we used my mother's fn as her mn. I like family names as mns, so anyone you want to honor?
Otherwise I like Avery Elizabeth
This is what I was going to say. I agree it should be a very feminine name.

I liked this at first and then I said it together a couple times and now all I hear is "eclair" in the middle like a dessert.
I do like the one syllable MN though:
Avery Rae or Avery Mae
