I keep seeing her name on the news, but I have not cared enough or paid enough attention to even know who she is or what happened.  I assume she is on trial for killing someone?

She's (a now 24 year old) American exchange student living in Italy found guilty of murdering her roommate (her boyfriend was found guilty of the same).  This is her appeal verdict.  She may be set free, returned to prison with the same sentence or have her sentence increased.
