Gone

Hi ladies,

Well, it's over.  My numbers are dropping, so they are calling it a c/p.  I can't tell you how ticked I feel.  We did the PGD to avoid this, so I want to know how the he!! 2 embryos that were supposedly normal failed us.  I'm bitter and mad and hurting more than I ever though possible.  This is the worst.

  • I don't post much but felt compelled to respond. After 4 losses, my DH and I did CGH with IVF #2 back in June. Out of 17 embryos we only had 2 that tested normal. On day 4 one of them arrested so I am thinking it was because of the unnatural environment. On day 5 we only had one CGH normal embryo to transfer back (which was a little girl.) Since we knew that every single chromosome was tested, I never expected the result we ended up with. We initially got a low positive but then my HCG started going up. In the end it turned out to be a c/p. I never knew that this could happen as usually a c/p (according to most doctors) occur because of a chromosomal abnormality. The one thing that I have learned from all of this is that I will never waste the money on CGH again. We were looking to prevent another loss but obviously this didn't help at all. The only thing it accomplished was wasting almost $5k...money we could have used towards additional IVF cycles.

I am so sorry you are going through this and my heart goes out to you.

  • I'm so sorry Hun Sad big hugs to you.

Thank you so much for posting.  I agree with your statement completely.  I want to go back through my notes, but I thought we were given a 95% chance of success by transferring embryos that came back normal.  I was blindsided by our result.  We have one more try left in our package, and I refuse to do the additional testing again.  It's very clearly useless.

I have not yet had a fresh transfer, and I am going to push for that on our last try.  Between the freezing and the manipulation that was required to do the biopsy in my previous cycles, something is just not right.

It means a lot to me that you shared your story.  Thank you again.

I was completely blown away too. I never expected in a million years that a chromosomally perfect embryo would not work out. Also, knowing that we had a CGH perfect embryo arrest on Day 4 has also really opened up my eyes. I have read so many things that the reason why embryos arrest is because they are chromosomally abnormal. Well, I now know this to be not true. Another thing is learning that appearance means nothing either. My three best looking embryos in that cycle, the ones that we would have transferred if it wasn't for the CGH results (were hatching blasts) had multiple trisomies and monosomies and there was no way that any of them would have survived...that or would have caused a miscarriage. My normal embryo that we transferred was the 4th best looking one. After this experience I am beginning to believe that less is more. I will now only do Day 2 or 3 transfers as I am terrified of losing good embryos. My RE has also decided to up the ante by putting more back instead of having me waste my money again. We know that quality of my eggs suck so what is the difference.
