Question for SPs of a newborn and custody

Hi there, I hope you do not mind my asking here, as I know that this is a pretty knowledgeable group.

I have a friend who is in the process of getting a divorce from her husband of 2 years. She is due in 4 weeks, and the first court apt is 3 days before DD. her STBXH is a turd, and wanted nothing to do with kids, but is kind of using the baby now as a pawn. Her anxiety is through the roof, and has a fear of being required to have joint custody of baby from the start. She was planning on BFing, and I think has a ton of new mom-ish/protective anxiety. Her Ex has no perminant residence, and right now rooms at a friend's apartment with no job.

Any insight as to how newborn custody tends to work?

Re: Question for SPs of a newborn and custody

  • Frequent, shorter visits are recommended for young children rather than longer overnight visits.  I don't believe a judge would be likely to grant EOW or 50/50 with a breastfed newborn, especially the first several months.
