Rattling in chest

Runny nose for one week, no fever, but a cough has developed and his chest is "rattley"...hmm...how do I spell that made-up word?

Is this just a cold - or does a rattling chest make it something to be worried about?

Yes, I am calling my doc tomorrow....but opinions please :)

  • yup I'd call.

not sure where you live but pneumonia is going around here like crazy. I am getting over it now and my dad and several friends all have had it.

  • Yeah, I would call really for any kind of lingering cough.

Without other symptoms, most pedis won't see you for at least 3 weeks. That is the duration of a cold and there's nothing they can do about it.

What "most pedis" are you talking about?  My doctor will see me for anything I want to see her for and by the end of the week if I'm calling on a Monday.  I think if this is your pedi's policy you should be changing pedis.  A rattling chest could absolutely be pneumonia, and should have a chest xray done to rule it out.

  • Def call maybe nothing but have it checked out...our pedi will see us anytime I call to be seen. I practically live at the doctors office with both boys but our doctor has no issue with it and would rather me be over cautious with things and catch the important things.

  • My son had the exact same symptoms. After 3 days we took him in and the Dr. said it was a virus and would go away on it's own in a few days. We used the humidifier for 1week but he didn't get better.

Took him in again and another Dr. saw him and said it was bronchitis. He received a breathing threatment and albuterol and meds at home.

GL and defenatelly call ur Dr.
