how long after c-section did you get movin?

Im 10 days post op and planning on starting walking in the next couple days, just curious when people started easy walking/vigerous workouts?

Re: how long after c-section did you get movin?

  • easy walking was the next morning after the c-section in the hospital...I just tried to continue walking increasing lengths as long as no pain was present. As far as running and intense workouts I started about 6 weeks but most people I hear their Dr's saying wait for 8 weeks... even then the AB workouts were the last to come along :)

  • I was hurting pretty bad after mine so I started very light and very slow walks at about 2 weeks. It really took until about 8 weeks until I could even think about a light jog. I rode my bike at 6 weeks though since the low impact stuff didn't bother me. My OB/GYN said it wouldn't do any real damage if I started earlier as things were pretty much healed after 4 weeks, but it would take longer for me to feel 100% if I pushed the envelope instead of just waiting.

  • I started with exercise disguised as something else.  Walks on the beach, to the park, chasing my son while he played at the green belt.

I didn't start working out with the intention of really working out until the day before 6 weeks pp.  I did NOT want to take any risks.  I still haven't started working out my abs.  I am working my core with my TRX, but that's an indirect result of other moves.

  • I only walked until my 6wk postpartum check up.  I went running shortly after that.  It felt like things were loose inside my abdomen but didn't hurt however the next day my insides ached a bit.  I'm now back at the gym several times a wk and lifting weights. I would only consider walking until you've gotten the ok from the doctor.  It's not worth impeding your recovery by doing too much too soon.

  • My c-section was really smooth and I felt great afterward.  I was walking from the day I got home and started jogging slowly after my 2 week follow-up.  By my six week follow-up, I was back to running as normal, although a bit slower perhaps. I was doing spinning classes at 6 weeks PP and Kickboxing at about 3 months.

  • My c was relatively easy, but it was still slow going.  I walked as soon as I got home from the hospital, but it was just on my treadmill and I think I started at about 5 minute intervals and worked up my endurance.  By 6w pp, I was back at the gym and starting to slowly run.  I didn't work abs until around 16 w pp because they sewed them back together during my c.
